low blood pressure, loss of balance, weakness (Aging Issues board)

22nd October 2007
Hi,
I'm at my wits end. My dad, who is 86, has probably had just about every test in the world. The tests all come out good but
he does have low blood pressure and has bouts with syncope. He is currently having home health care with occupational therapy, physical therapy, a nurse aide 3 times a week for a bath, and a nurse twice a week to check blood pressure, weight and temperature.
He seems confused some days more than others.
Doctors say he loses balance and is confused because of the low blood pressure, congestive heart failure and mild dementia. Some days he's really good. Other days he can't seem to hardly move without falling. He says he can't sleep at night so he takes naps during the day but still seems fatigued. He takes amiadarone 3 times a day, florinef once a day, pacerone once every other day, lipitor daily, and synthroid daily.
My question is why can't he at least maintain his stamina even with all the therapy he's getting.
One doctor wants to put him on Aricept but I have no experience with it so I am not in favor of it.
Any advice on any of the above would be most appreciated by my mom and me.

Doris
