Current medications (all of them, because I have more than just panic attacks)
Paxil - 20mg once a day
Xanax - .5 mg 4 times a day (I only take as needed though)
Glucophage - 500mg twice a day (for diabetes)
Mevacor - 40mg once a day (for high cholesterol)
Inderal - 20mg 4 times a day (for high blood pressure)
Maxalt - 10mg as needed (for migraines)
Biaxin XL - 1000mg once a day (for sinus infection)
Rhinocort nasal spray - twice a day (for chronic sinus problems)
Since I just moved to a new state, I have to go and find a new pdoc. I have an appointment Monday.
The Paxil isn't doing it. This is the 3rd time I've tried it, and it's never helped me. Before the Paxil, I was on Zoloft 250mg a day (for 3 years). The headaches got so bad that I had to stop it and was changed to the Paxil. I've also been on Tofranil, Buspar, Elavil, Ativan, and Valium. I can't take Klonopin because I also have mitral valve prolapse, and the combination of Klonopin and Inderal could be deadly for me. I won't take Prozac. It may be a great drug for some, but I'm scared of the side effects. If I'm scared of it, as soon as I swallow it I'm gonna have a panic attack.
I think I need to switch to another SSRI, or something else. The Xanax works great when I'm having a panic attack or am really anxious or nervous and need it. But the Paxil isn't working at all. I've been on it for 3 months now, and my anxiety level is as high as if I weren't on anything at all. I don't want to up the dose because at 30mg and higher, I have tremors so bad that I can't even hold a glass.
What SSRI's have worked for you? What are the pro's and cons? I want to request a medication change when I go Monday, but I don't really know anything about the other SSRI's out there as I haven't dealt with them.
I appreciate any feedback.
