One note -- I have been on every Statin drug starting back in the 70's as a new one came out I was put on it until my body just could not handle it any more. Started in my 40's. Just turned 82.

Ed,
Although it may SEEM that statins have been with us a long long time, the first one, Mercks's lovastatin, called MEVACOR, only got FDA approval in 1987. It was years afterward til they were widely used. In fact, my mom died in 1993 of progressive coronary disease with 3 major arteries slowly failing over a long period and this line of treatment was never mentioned...just the god awful diet cure, where anything that TASTED good was off the list...skim milk I had not even heard of them until after she died.
Statins are really the blockbuster drugs of the 1990's.

Other type anticholesterol drugs have been around MUCH longer though...I'm thinking Lopid.
